Jerry Lawler

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler discussed getting to spend time with The Undertaker recently at Survivor Series last Sunday in Houston on his podcast and watching the show backstage, including a funny moment involving John Cena.

Lawler on The Undertaker being in great shape:

“I think he might have looked too good. I think when you get when you hang around or you show up and you look that good, they in the WWE, they’re ready for you to come back. You know, closer to the time after WrestleMania and I think I said that I believe we’ve seen the last of Undertaker in the ring. Now, I’m going to I’m going to go back on my word. Just looking at him the other night, I think there’s some more matches left in the Undertaker.”

On a funny moment backstage with John Cena:

“So there’s a TV and monitor to watch the show. There were three seats. Three chairs in front of the monitor and I was sitting in the one on the left hand side and in the middle now, to my right, sitting next to me, was Undertaker. And to his right sitting next to him was Kane. We were all just sitting here watching the show talking about old times and stuff, and all of a sudden, the door happened to be open. All of a sudden, we saw John Cena. He went past the door and glanced in, and then he just went past. Suddenly we saw him backing up, he just backed up, and he looked in at the three of us sitting there – and he said, ‘that’s pretty cool.’ And he just walked on.”

  1. What was funny about that moment with Cena? If anything that was a respectful moment. There’s over 100 years of wrestling experience between Undertaker, Kane, and Jerry “The King” Lawler. The younger performers can learn tons from them if they (meaning the younger performers) are willing to listen when The Undertaker, Kane, and The King speak.

  2. I took it that Lawler was saying the way it happened…i.e. Cena picking in and then continuing to walk and then backing up like a truck like, ‘did I just see those three icons, sitting, watching the show, chatting’, and then the (wow, so cool – paraphrased) comment, all in the way it happened is like an out of a movie moment…but of course, from Cena’s perspective it was a ‘so much respect’ moment AND absolutely, if the younger talent would learn a great deal listening to these three legends. Just my take on what Lawler meant if he cited it as a funny moment with Cena.

  3. That is a very plausible explanation. I guess it was the word funny that threw me off. It’s definitely not funny in the ha ha sense, but doesn’t really seem funny in the strange or weird sense either.

  4. Doesn’t matter to me if he “looks good” or not. Getting tired of seeing 50 y/olds in the ring when there are so many other talents that need a chance.

  5. It was a crime that he lost at WrestleMania 33 (regardless of who he wrestled or would’ve wrestled). They could’ve had him lose at WrestleMania 34 seeing as it’ll be in New Orleans,Luisianna (the same place he lost at WrestleMania 30. It could be the New Orleans jinx were he can’t win in New Orleans at a WrestleMania). I wouldn’t mind seeing him wrestle again, but he need to go into the WWE Hall of Fame.

  6. For my own selfish reason that I’ve never got the chance to see him I would love for him to keep going for another few Wrestlemanias. I’m a bit perplexed about his match this year though, did he not cut a promo last year saying his career would no longer be defined by Wrestlemania? If that’s the case then he shouldn’t have had a match but have appeared on more tv & live shows. Just my personal opinion. Also, there’s still plenty of people that he could have far better matches with than the one he had with Reigns – Cena or Sting for example.

  7. Funny ha-ha in the sense that someone of a megastar status like JC can still see things that cause him to act like a regular fanboy, i’d say.

  8. The Undertaker did indeed cut that exact promo. It was on the November 15, 2016 episode of Smackdown. This was the go home Smackdown for Survivor Series 2016.

  9. So why have him wrestle at Mania? Made no sense for him to cut that promo if he was going to have a Mania match anyway!
