Daniel Bryan

Mike Ashmore of The Trentonian is featuring an interview with Daniel Bryan where he talks about still trying to get the green light from WWE to make a return to the ring.

Bryan, 36, hasn’t competed in the ring for WWE since April of 2015.

“I’m trying to get cleared as we speak. All my tests have come back fantastic, better than people who have never had any concussion-type stuff. But it’s a weird thing. We’re in a weird situation politically with the climate around concussions; right now, it’s very difficult. WWE would love to have me back, but is that the smart thing for me as a business to bring me back? If I was to come back, and they let me back, would they get a lot of flak for it? They have a ton of stockholders that they’re responsible for. It’s more than just, ‘Is he healthy to do it?”

Bryan noted that all concussion doctors he’s met with feel he’s healthy for a return.

“All the concussion doctors think that I’m healthy enough to do it, and that I should be able to do it — well, I don’t want to say all of them, I’m sure there’s somebody out there who doesn’t think that — but there’s a lot more than goes into it than just that. That’s the unfortunate situation with giant corporations and big business in the United States.”

  1. this from a guy who’d blackout and lie about it just so he could wrestle. What if he got hurt? He may not care about his well being but glad WWE does.

  2. I don’t mind Daniel Bryan wrestling, but please,WWE,keep him away from any titles! At first I thought the whole “B+” thing was just a storyline but considering he couldn’t even hold the Intercontinental Championship without getting injured only proved The Authority’s point (storyline or not). I don’t hate Daniel Bryan, but half (if not most) of his fans are annoying.

  3. Who would you consider an “A player”. Every wrestler who’s had a proper career has been injured. Even Cena, Rollins and Reigns

  4. not like he’s the first athelete who’s ever down played an injury before, it happens all the time. besides, this isn’t him just saying he feels fine to wrestle again he had all these concussion specialist clear him to wrestle again. as for him getting hurt again the risk of a serious head injury could happen to any wrestler at anytime regardless if they have had a past history of concussions or not ,the effect of a major hit to the head would be the same.

  5. They don’t necessarily have to come back to a match involving dives flips or superkicks to the head. Put him with someone who isn’t reckless and do a general wrestling match, otherwise he is a liability. No need for him to do a Styles/Balor type match with 2 dozen kicks to the head

  6. Look, if he is able to come back, then be an attraction like Lesnar or Undertaker or Shane. And ease up on the risk taking when you do compete, if you’re going to do the whole chase for the title thing again then you will end up a brick, But Miz should be the build up to start with. But I think I would be telling this to someone with the best of intentions but nothing else

  7. SPOILER ALERT: One of the Smackdown Survivor Series Team members will be “taken out” at the beginning of the show (mostly Shane) & Daniel Bryan will take his spot.

  8. True, but they never surrendered a title back to back like Daniel Bryan did. A+ players (to me) are guys like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin,The Rock,The Undertaker, and others who were main eventers at best. Daniel Bryan was a main eventer, but couldn’t hold on to it (let alone mid card status) despite gaining a following. I’m a fan of him,but I see his faults.

  9. Not really. He had his badass persona and great feuds to back him up. Plus, he didn’t surrender both titles in WWE like Daniel Bryan did.

  10. I’m ok with him wrestling but I’d rather it wasn’t for WWE. I personally think his retirement was a blessing in disguise because you know from a booking perspective WWE would screw it up eventually. On the other hand at least wrestling for them he has access to better medical care.

  11. he vacated IC and tag titles, Bryan had great feuds too. he’s A star and more over than anyone, people booed a megaface like Mysterio simply cos it meant Bryan wasn’t in the rumble

  12. Why does Bryan have to inject his far left socialist political beliefs into it? This has nothing to do with giant corporations being bad or doing something wrong. The flak would come because people are concerned about how multiple concussions can ruin your life. The WWE is right to be cautious on this, you can’t just expect them to clear you and take the chance of you getting seriously hurt because your hand picked doctors say it’s okay. If WWE cleared him and Bryan got hurt, he’d complain that the WWE allowed him to be at risk.

  13. What would be the point of him coming back then? He’d be just another generic wrestler if he can’t do that all of that. It’s what made him appealing. Also, I’m pretty sure Bryan has said himself would not wrestle if he can’t wrestle in the same style before the concussion.

  14. I don’t know if he’s the type that would come back and join a class action concussion lawsuit 15 years from now. If so, then make him sign a waiver, and I’m fine with him wrestling any style he wants.
