Roderick Strong

WWE just posted the following photo on Instagram revealing the arrival of former ROH and TNA star Roderick Strong at the NXT TV tapings tonight at Full Sail University.

Strong, a former ROH TV and Tag Team Champion, was a regular with TNA in 2005 including the first ever match on Impact against AJ Styles on Spike TV that year.

He would then return to ROH as a regular in 2006 and remained active on the independent wrestling scene including stints with Pro Wrestling NOAH.

You can check out a photo of Strong courtesy of WWE below.

  1. the last time i saw Roderick Strong was when he answered Kurt Angle’s invitational match back in 2005 on SmackDown

  2. Lost another one to DiTech….er I mean WWE. I was wondering why I hadn’t seen him on ROH lately but good news is that with the way WWE is treating wrestlers from outside the company at the moment, he should hopefully do well there. Hopefully.

  3. Very interesting analysis.
Yep, 11 more or less–Low Ki, Samoa Joe, Austin Aries, CM Punk, Jamie Noble, Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins (Tyler Black), Eddie Edwards, Davey Richards, Kevin Owens (Steen), & finally Roderick Strong. Edwards & Richards only had 1 match in NXT but I guess that counts.
The 9 they haven’t signed yet are–John (Xavier) Jirus, Homicide, Takeshi Morishima, Nigel McGuinness Jerry Lynn, Jay Briscoe, Adam Cole, Michael Elgin, & Jay Lethal.
Technically Jerry Lynn used to work for WWE but he won the ROH title after leaving there.

  4. Wouldn’t Jamie Noble be the same as Lynn? As I recall, wasn’t he in the WWE as an active roster member before going to ROH? I may be wrong, but his run in WWE was prior to ROH, wasn’t it? Or was he kinda back and forth? I think if WWE wants some serious competitors, Lethal, Cole and the Briscoes should be top of their list. But I do hate to see ROH getting stripped as if it was a bush league fed.

  5. Jamie Noble was indeed in WWE before being signed to ROH where he eventually became champion. Then he left ROH to go back to WWE as half of J & J Security with Joey Mercury so he does count as a former ROH champion who WWE signed (re-signed) away.
Jerry Lynn however became ROH champion after leaving WWE and has yet to be re-signed by them and since he’s retired that likely won’t happen unless in it’s in some capacity as a road agent or trainer.
